RICHMOND, VA SEPTEMBER 28, 2021 Today, Virginia Allergy and Asthma Center announced it joined AllerVie Health earlier this month. AllerVie Health is a national network of board-certified allergists who think similarly about patient care and have joined together to change patients lives in greater ways than they could individually. Exciting changes are in the works locally as both of Dr. Vilsecks practices in Henrico and Midlothian will be rebranding in the coming months to AllerVie Health!

Dr. Vilseck and the other providers at Virginia Allergy and Asthma Center continue to practice medicine and provide exemplary allergy and immunology services to patients from the current locations across the greater Richmond area, ensuring continuity of care.

AllerVie Healths focus on clinical research, innovation, and expansion of care will give the opportunity to bring clinical trials, new treatments, and other resources to those with allergy needs.

My staff and I are pleased to be associated with an organization of outstanding physicians and allied healthcare personnel, said Joseph R. Vilseck, Jr., Ph.D., M.D. The AllerVie Health network will help to improve allergy, asthma, and immunology healthcare for Central Virginia.

How Is Allergy Testing Done

Allergy testing can be done as skin tests or as blood tests, and there are two types of skin tests we can perform. During the first type of skin test, a drop of a suspected allergen is pricked or scratched on the surface of your back or forearm. Well test for many suspected allergens at the same time. If you are allergic to one of the tests, you will have redness and swelling at the test spot. Sometimes the doctor will recommend a second type of test. In this type, a small amount of the suspected allergen is injected into the skin of your arm or forearm, also testing for a few suspected allergens at once.

Our physicians are committed to creating an atmosphere of open communication, mutual respect and teamwork. We provide one-on-one, personalized care and treatment of your medical needs. Let our family take care of your family, because what we do matters to you!

Skin testing is a method of testing for allergic antibodies. We will introduce small amounts of suspected allergens into the skin, noting the development of a reaction. The results are read 15- 20 minutes after the application of the allergen. Interpretation of skin tests requires the allergists skill in matching the results with the patients history of allergy-like symptoms.

We offer a wide range of allergens for testing, including foods, environmental inhalants, and select medications. What you are tested for will be determined after speaking with our providers, based on your history and symptoms.

You should consider immunotherapy if you are unable to avoid specific allergens, frequently miss school and work because of symptoms, and/or get inadequate relief from medications or experience troublesome side effects from those medications.

Philly’s Pollen Ragweed And Mold Count Source

Since 1990 The Asthma Center has been the Philly region’s source for daily pollen, ragweed and mold counts. In 2020 we installed a new, revolutionary artifical intelligence powered pollen sensor – the only one of it’s kind in Philadelphia, and one of the few in the Northeast US. With this new pollen technology, we can publish live pollen counts and forecasts throughout the spring and fall allergy seasons.

Our previous counts were obtained by manual analysis and interpretation of pollen samples by a technician. The analysis was done daily and resulted in reporting lags of up to 24 hours, and was not available when the office was closed . The new counts come from machine-learning equipped sensors that automatically convert air samples into pollen forecasts. We will publish the data on this page, and distribute daily snapshots through our email subscription service. This will give allergy sufferers constant access to the data they really need: pollen and mold counts that reflect what is in the air now, not yesterday. For those who want to plan outdoor activities, this is the most reliable way of using current pollen data to make informed decisions about spending outdoor time.
