How Can We Avoid Allergies And Asthma

When to See an Allergist | Arkansas Allergy and Asthma Clinic

Allergy is a disorder of the immune system often also referred to as atopy. Allergic reactions occur to normally harmless environmental substances known as allergens these reactions are acquired, predictable, and rapid. Strictly, allergy is one of four forms of hypersensitivity and is called type I hypersensitivity. It is characterized by excessive activation of certain white blood cells called mast cells and basophils by a type of antibody known as IgE, resulting in an extreme inflammatory response. Common allergic reactions include eczema, hives, hay fever, asthma attacks, food allergies, and reactions to the venom of stinging insects such as wasps and bees.

Mild allergies like hay fever are highly prevalent in the human population and cause symptoms such as allergic conjunctivitis, itchiness, and runny nose. Allergies can play a major role in conditions such as asthma. In some people, severe allergies to environmental or dietary allergens or to medication may result in life-threatening anaphylactic reactions and potentially death.

A variety of tests now exist to diagnose allergic conditions these include testing the skin for responses to known allergens or analyzing the blood for the presence and levels of allergen-specific IgE. Treatments for allergies include allergen avoidance, use of antihistamines, steroids or other oral medications, immunotherapy to desensitize the response to allergen, and targeted therapy.

Four Seasons Allergy And Asthma

Dr. Jeffers was very thorough and has given me hope for dealing with my allergies and asthma. Everyone in that office was so nice and helpful. Would definitely recommend this clinic.

Being a healthcare worker, myself, I think I hold other health professionals to a pretty high standard. I tend to be very critical, especially when it comes to my personal healthcare needs. I also tend to be very critical of our healthcare system in general, which makes it difficult for me to find the right fit when it comes to choosing providers. With that said, Dr. Jeffers and her staff thoroughly exceeded my expectations! They were all very personable, professional, and compassionate. Dr. Jeffers was amazing! She is, clearly, very knowledgeable and an expert in her field of medicine. She spent time listening to me and gathering information to properly diagnose and treat my condition. I felt like she truly cared and she was very willing to answer all of my questions without making me feel like I was taking up her valuable time. In my opinion, this is how healthcare should operate. Im extremely grateful for the care that Dr. Jeffers and her staff provided to me. Keep doing grea…

My experience with Dr Jeffers and her staff was excellent. Dr Jeffers listened to all my history and problems. That is very rare among practitioners today. We have a plan A and a plan B to slice my issues. Great visit.
