Including the first publication in 1997, over 25 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials have been conducted to study the effects of various probiotics on treatment and prevention of allergic diseases. In total, almost 3000 individuals have participated in these studies so far . This subject has been covered thoroughly in 3 recent reviews and 1 metaanalysis . Even though these reviews partly diverge in their conclusions, the consensus is that the evidence is stronger for prevention of atopic disease than for treatment of atopic eczema and that the probiotic approach certainly deserves to be further explored. In the case of food allergy, there is definitely a need to find alternative solutions to the currently recommended eviction diet . Of note, a systematic review of treatment trials of allergic rhinitis/asthma has been published recently .

Make Sure You Get Enough Vitamin D

Most people in cold countries like the UK get insufficient amounts of vitamin D all year, not just in the winter. Our main source of Vitamin D is sunlight. However, oily fish , egg yolks and red meat are also good sources though it is not always possible to get all the Vitamin D that we need from food. Most doctors recommend avitamin D supplement, particularly in the long stretch of winter when the sun isnt seen for months.

The best form of Vitamin D is sunlight.

How much do I take?

A daily supplement of 10mg of Vitamin D during the Autumn and Winter. The NHS says that most of us can get enough of what we need between March and the end of September with a nutritionally-balanced diet and adequate exposure to sunlight, and so it may not be necessary to take a supplement around that time.

Clinical Assessment And Outcomes

Assessments were carried out at baseline, and at weeks 8 and 16 of the trial. Information on socio-demographic characteristics, risk factors for asthma, medications, usual dietary intake and the use of dietary supplements was collected at baseline. Dietary intake was measured using a twenty-eight-item FFQ to compare the frequency distribution of fruits, vegetables, n-3-rich oily fish and probiotic-related food intake between the two groups.

Asthma-related quality of life was measured using the Paediatric Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire that consists of twenty-three items. The total score ranges from 1 to 7 .

The Childhood Asthma Control Test was used to evaluate how well the children’s asthma was controlled. The reliability and validity of this test have been demonstrated previously in Chinese children. The CACT was completed jointly by children and their parent or caregiver. The CACT includes seven items and has a total score ranging from 0 to 27. The higher the score, the better the asthma control. Inadequately controlled asthma was defined as a CACT score less than 19.

The erythrocyte membrane arachidonic acid, EPA and DHA compositions were analysed using GC. The procedure has been described in detail elsewhere.

Drinks With Vitamin D

A 2016 study notes that children and adults with low levels of vitamin D are more likely to experience asthma symptoms and that those who include vitamin D in their diet are less likely to require hospitalization due to asthma.

Fortified cows milk or plant-based milk may contain vitamin D, which might help prevent asthma attacks in some cases.

What To Eat After The Flu Subsides

Many people dont eat at all during the flu itself, and only start eating once the nasty symptoms have worn off. In the first 24 hours it is important to drink plenty of water, and your leftover bone broth is also great for getting a mix of different nutrients. You can also drink fruit or vegetable juices if you prefer.

After 24 hours, if you feel up to eating again, a great protocol to follow is the BRAT diet. BRAT stands for bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. These foods are bland to reduce nausea and are gentle on the stomach. Heres a short list of other foods that you should include in your post-flu BRAT diet, and some that you should avoid

Foods to eat:

  • Coffee.

Flu is normally accompanied by a feeling of not wanting to eat very much, and this feeling often lingers long after the flu has gone. Depending on the kind of flu you have, you may have experienced digestive problems as well. The first thing to keep in mind is to have small, frequent meals, in order to get nutrients in a small and manageable amount. This is especially important if youve been vomiting during your illness.

Another helpful thing to do is quit sugar. We know its difficult, especially in the winter when all you want is snuggle up on the sofa with some chocolate. However, sugar really and wont allow your body to properly heal. Also, sugar is disruptive to your digestive health so will do nothing to help your upset stomach or feelings of nauseousness.

Management Of Eczema And Atopic Eczema By Probiotics

Trending Lemon Yakult Juice Paano nga ba gawin?

To date, randomized clinical trials of probiotics in allergic diseases have mostly focused on children with eczema and atopic eczema. These definitions have recently been revised by an international expert group as described above . In many of the studies published before the revision of the nomenclature, different definitions have been used, making direct comparisons between the studies difficult . Probiotic strains and doses have also varied considerably between the studies. Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG is the strain that has been most studied. The first studies with this strain suggested a therapeutic effect both in eczema and atopic eczema , whereas the most recent reports show an effect only in patients suffering from atopic eczema or no effect at all . In conclusion, most of the studies have been conducted in small numbers of patients and results have varied considerably, even with the same strain. This may be due to differences in the clinical set-up but also, and this should be stressed, different probiotic preparations or formulations. Thus, at present, a specific probiotic strain cannot be recommended for the general treatment of eczema or atopic eczema.

Recommendations And Gaps In Human Trials With Probiotics In Preventing And Managing Allergy

The current evidence summarized above suggests that certain probiotic strains may play a role in the prevention and management of atopic disease. To consolidate these observations, additional studies are needed where the following points should be considered carefully: 1) Diagnosis of atopic diseases should be based on uniform criteria in different studies and clusters of subpopulations should be identified. 2) Genotyping of study patients in relation to different genes predisposing to allergic diseases may help to find patients that might especially benefit from probiotic intervention. For example, 2 independent mutations in the gene encoding the epidermal protein filaggrin have been shown to be strong predisposing factors for childhood eczema . Of note, these same mutations have recently been demonstrated to be associated not only with eczema-associated asthma susceptibility but also with asthma severity independent of eczema status . More generally, any means to better stratify or select defined subpopulations of subjects would help in clarifying the potency and limits of probiotic interventions against allergic diseases. 3) Symptom scores of allergic diseases in different studies should be similar and thoroughly validated. 4) Antiallergic and other medications such as antibiotic use should be closely monitored and reported, as well as other possible confounding factors, including living conditions .

More than 19 million American adults have asthma, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention . Inflammation and narrowing in the lungs is the primary cause of symptoms associated with the disease.

And while theres no evidence that any one diet will cure asthma, a growing body of research suggests that certain foods can worsen inflammation, and therefore the severity of asthma, according to Meredith C. McCormack, MD, the medical director of the pulmonary function laboratory and an associate professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore.

The clinical evidence for dietary changes as a primary treatment for asthma is still evolving, but theres plenty of evidence that suggests a healthy diet is beneficial, Dr. McCormack says.

For example, according to a review published in Nutrients in November 2017, there are certain foods that have pro- or anti-inflammatory effects, which means they can help or hurt when it comes to asthma management.

McCormack says she works with her asthma patients to develop nutritional plans that alleviate asthma symptoms and support overall health.

Cassidy Gundersen, PhD, a nutritionist and the owner of Spiro Health and Wellness in Salt Lake City, says shes also worked with a number of people who were able to find long-lasting relief from asthma with dietary changes.

You May Never Have To Take A Pill Again If You Eat Enough Good Bacteria

Foods containing probiotics health-enhancing live micro-organisms such as bacteria and yeasts and prebiotics non-digestible plant fibres that promote the growth of probiotics can complement and, in some cases, even replace medicine, claims new research.

Gut microbiota, the collection of symbiotic micro-organisms in our digestive tract, is known to play a crucial role in our digestive health, and is implicated in a range of diseases including asthma and diabetes. And pre and probiotics rich foods and supplements help maintain an optimal ecology of such micro-organisms, which offers a wide range of health benefits.

An April 2016 study published in Minerva Urologica e Nefrologica says chronic kidney disease patients who took prebiotic and probiotic supplements thrice daily for six months, in addition to a low protein diet, maintained their estimated glomerular filtration rate a desirable kidney function indicator at more than three times the level of those taking a low protein diet alone.

This would slow the progression of chronic kidney disease, which typically ends in end-stage renal disease, necessitating periodical dialysis and shortening the lifespan, Pavan Malleshappa, lead researcher and head, Division of Nephrology, Department of Medicine, Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences, Karnataka, told IndiaSpend.

They can also help alleviate constipation, which one in seven Indians suffers from, as well as indigestion, which afflicts three in 10.

Cautions Of Yakult For Toddlers

The ten benefits of Yakult for toddlers mentioned above are good for most mothers to know whenever their children are asking a bottle of Yakult. However, still there are some cautions mothers should aware as well when giving Yakult to their toddlers.

  • If it is the first time for mothers to give Yakult to their under two year old toddlers, they should give a closer attention about any reaction that may occur. Some studies stated that children with specific health condition may suffer some drawbacks from taking probiotic drink such as children with symptoms of lactose intolerance or children with weakened immunity system.
  • For some childrens, Yakult is probably too sweet. That is why mothers may need to take a half bottle of Yakult to be mixed with water before giving it to their toddlers.
  • Dosage is really matter in giving your toddlers. If adults recommendation is two bottle of Yakult per day/drink, you may need to reduce the dosage when giving Yakult to the toddlers.
  • If your children are suffering or allergic to animal-based protein or milk is highly recommended to keep them away from Yakult.

So, overall Yakult is safe for toddlers but mothers should really aware about the dosage not only focusing on the benefits of Yakult for toddlers. Though from the explanation above, nothing that mothers should worry whenever their toddlers are asking Yakult because generally probiotic drink is safe for them and super healthy.

Baseline Characteristics And Participant Compliance

At baseline, the distributions of age, sex, BMI, medication usage, pulmonary function, PAQLQ scores and CACT scores were similar in the supplement and placebo groups . The frequency of FVFP formula-related foods and other foods were non-significantly different between the two groups at baseline as well as during the intervention . On average , these children consumed vegetables about three times per d and fruit once per d. In addition, they consumed candy, sweet drinks or desserts about ten times per week, milk five times per week, yogurt or Yakult three times per week and cheese 1·5 times per week, and fish four times per week. Around one-third of these fish were oily fish. Information on portion sizes was not requested. According to the 24 h dietary recall data from the Nutrition and Health Survey in Taiwan, elementary school children consume about 33 g of vegetables , 150 g of fruits and 40 g of fish each time. Therefore, children in the present study ingested one serving of vegetables and 1·5 servings of fruit per d, and 1·5 servings of oily fish per week, but relatively little Lactobacillus-containing foods.
