In 1991, she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Baylor University, and in 1994 received a Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from the University of Texas at Arlington. She started her career in rural health, and over the past 26 years has provided care to many individuals in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, Endocrinology, Allergy & Asthma, Hepatology, and Womens Health settings. She also has experience conducting VA disability exams. She began conducting clinical trials in 1999 as a Clinical Research Sub-Investigator, doing Phase I-IV clinical trials involving Hepatitis C, Ulcerative Colitis, Crohns, NASH, Diabetes, Hypertension, Hyperlipidemia, Womens Health, Obesity, Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis, Allergic Rhinitis, Asthma, Alzheimers Disease, Sinusitis, and vaccine developments.
