Is Vitamin E Bad For Your Asthma

Peanuts, shellfish and dairy are just a few common food allergies that may trigger asthma attacks, but in addition to watching out for the foods they eat, people with food allergies should also be mindful of the oils they cook their foods in.

Researchers from Northwestern University found that gamma-tocopherol, a type of vitamin E, is linked to reduced lung function and a higher incidence of lung disease in the U.S. These gamma-tocopherols can be found in soybean , corn and canola oils.

Considering the rate of affected people we found in this study, there could be 4.5 million individuals in the U.S. with reduced lung function as a result of their high gamma-tocopherol consumption, said Joan Cook-Mills, the studys lead author, in a press statement.

On the other hand, alpha-tocopherol the good vitamin E lessens lung inflammation says Joan Cook-Mills, the studys lead author.

People in countries that consume olive and sunflower oil have the lowest rate of asthma and those that consume soybean, corn and canola oil have the highest rate of asthma, Cook-Mills said.

When people consume alpha-tocopherol, which is rich in olive oil and sunflower oil, their lung function is better.

For your cooking and baking try using more olive, safflower and sunflower oils and help yourself breathe a little easier.

Breaking Down The Disease

Asthma directly affects the respiratory system. The lungs contain bronchi and bronchioles. These are large and small passageways that circulate air in the lungs. A substance called mucosa line these passageways. In some people, the mucosa and muscles in the passageways become inflamed. With smaller passageways for air to circulate, these persons will have difficulty breathing when inflammation happens. Asthma attacks occur due to triggers like smoke, dust, pollen, or rigorous exercise. Even stress and cold weather cause attacks. While inhalers are the go-to treatment for asthma, these 4 supplements may help with asthma symptoms.

Vitamin Cs Benefits For Athletes

Buy Himalayan Organics Vitamin C 1000Mg Tablets Online ...

Vitamin C is something a miracle substance. Its an antioxidant that boosts the immune system and fights cell-damaging free radicals and infections.

Scientists and athletes alike have also known for some time about vitamin Cs ability to assist in post-workout recovery. This is due to the relationship between vitamin C and the so called stress hormone cortisol. This hormone gets a lot of negative press, but cortisol does play an essential role in regulating blood pressure and hunger signals, among other things. The problem is that chronically high levels of cortisol can keep your body in a catabolic state, especially after exercise. Catabolism is the process by which the bodys muscle tissues begin to break down. Vitamin C helps lower cortisol levels naturally, allowing for a faster and more complete recovery.

So while athletes have kept vitamin C in their toolkits for years, many people did not realize other potential benefits from this amazing chemical. Recent studies have indicated that vitamin C can be very effective against combating breathing difficulty in people suffering from constricted airways after exercise.

First, lets explain exactly what causes bronchoconstriction so we see how vitamin C helps fix it.

Vitamin A And Lung Health

Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin that plays a role in the expression of more than 500 genes. It is essential for healthy vision, cellular growth, wound healing and tissue repair, and has free radical scavenging potential. It also plays a role in immune system activity and is important for the health of mucosal passages and epithelial surfaces. Vitamin A plays a key role in the development and differentiation of white blood cells, including lymphocytes that fight infection, and it also has an effect on the levels of other immune system cells such as natural killer cells and cytokines such as interleukin 1.

Most of the vitamin A we store in our bodies is stored in the liver, but we also store some in the retina, kidneys, adrenal glands, fat, and in the lungs . Low levels of vitamin A, then, may not only affect eye health but also the health of the lungs and how well prepared we are to handle respiratory infection.

Theres even some indication that vitamin A deficiency can lead to an excessive reaction to oxidative stress in the lungs, with greater production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. This has been linked to bronchial spasm and more severe asthma symptoms.xiii In some health conditions, including infection, low levels of vitamin A seem to prevent proper tissue repair and may lead to the formation of scar tissue in the lungs, affecting lung health for far longer than the initial infection.

Refocusing Research Onto The Biological Effects Of Vitamin C

Vitamin C was identified in the search for the substance the deficiency of which led to scurvy. These early studies led to the assumption that the sole physiological function of vitamin C is just to prevent and treat scurvy. Therefore, it is often assumed that higher doses of vitamin C have no benefit when a person does not suffer from scurvy. In view of this strongly entrenched assumption, assessing the role of vitamin C on diseases and conditions other than scurvy is not just an empirical question but also a conceptual issue.

Bias against vitamin supplementation in general has been well documented . Several influential reviews on vitamin C and the common cold have been shown to be erroneous and misleading . A Cochrane review on vitamin C and asthma was shown to have substantial errors in the extraction of data and data analysis, and the review misled readers for a decade . If we wish for progress in the understanding of the effects of vitamin C on EIB, it needs to be acknowledged that the effects of vitamin C are not limited to the prevention of scurvy alone and, consequently, the published data on vitamin C should be analyzed carefully and comprehensively.

My Vitamin And Mineral Protocol To Prevent Infection

Dr Robert Cathcart MD – Allergies, Vitamin C, Fever, Asthma

For optimal health and to prevent infection by viruses, I recommend taking a multivitamin, along with additional vitamin C, vitamin D , vitamin E , magnesium , and zinc . To find your correct dose of vitamin C, learn about “bowel tolerance” — the daily dose just below the amount that causes a laxative effect. Many people find that when they’re not sick, a dose of 3000 mg – 10,000 mg/day taken all at once will cause a laxative effect, but they can tolerate the same daily dose of vitamin C when taken in divided doses. However, when an infection starts, much higher doses can prevent it from taking hold. Of course I recommend healthy eating, and daily exercise, and not smoking or drinking alcohol to excess. You may want to discuss doses of vitamins and minerals with your doctor. You might indeed be doing your physician a favor.

What I Did When Sickness Was Coming On

About 3 months ago I attended a medical lecture on osteoarthritis in the elderly. There was someone there seated near me, who was coughing during the lecture, but frankly I did not think much about it. Some days later, I awoke in the morning with a low grade temperature, sneezing and coughing and felt that I had picked up an upper respiratory infection. I was not tested, nor did I go to the doctors or the hospital to be tested.

I took 10,000 mg of plain vitamin C , 5 times during the day. Yes, I swallowed 50,000 mg of vitamin C during the day from about 6 AM until about 10 PM that night. I awoke the next morning, feeling great, with no symptoms of an infection!

I can tell you many stories about people who take a minimum of 10,000 mg of vitamin C every day on my recommendation, and who all have told me that they are feeling great, and like myself, do not get ill and are not at all worried about their health in this coronavirus pandemic!

Pharmaceutical medicine does not like vitamin C. After all, vitamin C works, is not expensive, and has no side effects. But vitamin C has changed my life, and the life of everyone I know who will take the time to listen and to have an open mind on this subject.

Ascorbic Acid And Vitamin C

Ascorbic acid and vitamin C are not stored by the body. When you ingest the supplement, the portion of the substance that’s not used by the body is expelled through your urine. Vitamin C is essential for the growth and repair of soft tissue. It is also a natural antioxidant, eliminating free radical cells from your body, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Free radical cells promote disease and mutation. Vitamin C naturally occurs in citrus fruits and leafy green vegetables. If you develop adverse reactions after taking the supplement, discontinue use and call your doctor.

Cured Her Two Children Of Asthma With Vitamin C

Science in Products: How to Cure Your Allergies with Vitamin C

At the age of two, Jennifer Ryans daughter was diagnosed with asthma. Then, when her son was only one month old, he was diagnosed as well. Terrified of what the asthma medication was doing to her childrens very young bodies, Jennifer and her husband did extensive research to find ways to mitigate the side effects of these drugs. Eight months later, through the administration of elevated doses of vitamin C, Jennifer and her husband not only mitigated the side effects of the asthma medication, but had cured both their children of asthma.

Excerpt from Jennifers Story.

You were doing this 20-ish years ago. Do you believe anything has changed since then regarding how asthma is treated by Western medicine?

Nope. It has stayed exactly the same, while Im jumping up and down saying, Start pumping the vitamin C. Nothing has changed. Same medications, same treatments everything is exactly the same. I also believe the diagnosis is easy for doctors children need more attention to find out what is really happening. We also need to make sure we are simply not treating with drugs. Alternatives are out there.

May Hurt: Food Allergies

You’re more likely to have a food allergy if you have asthma. And a food reaction could cause wheezing and other asthma symptoms. In some cases, it’s worse if you exercise after you eat certain foods. Try to notice what does it, and avoid it. Typical triggers are nuts, dairy, wheat, and shellfish, though everyone is different.

Vitamin C And Lung Health

Vitamin C is a water-soluble antioxidant, meaning it can go where vitamin A cant and can help fight off free radicals. Vitamin C is also essential for immune function, with levels of vitamin C up to 100 times higher in key immune system cells such as phagocytes and lymphocytes than in plasma. It may also protect healthy lung tissue against reactive oxygen species produced by phagocytes during a viral infection.

Vitamin C can also reduce the activity of bacteria during an infection and increase levels of interferon, a protein that can stop viruses from entering healthy cells. Vitamin C also helps increase the activity of T-lymphocytes, the mobility of leukocytes, and the production of antibodies.

This vitamin is also essential for the healthy production of collagen, the connective tissue that makes up a lot of lung tissue. In cases of lung infection, youre going to need sufficient vitamin C to help support healthy collagen production and minimize the formation of scar tissue in the lungs, which has a long-term detrimental effect on lung health.

How Vitamin C Helps With Seasonal Allergies

Spring is well-known for its ability to roil up the allergy misery for seasonal sufferers. But outdoor allergy problems can and do occur all year long. It just depends on what youre allergic to.

What are Seasonal Allergies?

Seasonal allergies occur when there is an overreaction of the immune system to a foreign substance called an allergen. This immune response involves the release of histamine into your bloodstream which prompts the onslaught of allergy symptoms. The classic symptoms of seasonal allergies include sneezing, itchy eyes, asthma, nasal congestion, and a runny nose.

Vitamin C: The Natural Antihistamine

Antihistamine therapy does not work for everyone it can leave you feeling dry and tired. Other side effects include difficulty with urination and irritability. Vitamin C is a welcomed alternative. In fact, it is essential that you eat foods rich in Vitamin C as your body doesnt make it on its own. A potent antioxidant, vitamin C protects your cells from damage, reduces the severity of allergic reactions and helps your body to fight infections. When taken during allergy season, vitamin C can slow down the overreaction of your body to environmental triggers by decreasing your bodys histamine production.

If youre thinking that Vitamin C is pretty much confined to citrus fruits and juices, youre in for a big and pleasant surprise. These are also foods rich in Vitamin C:

  • Chili peppers

So Whats The Best Vitamin C Formula To Help Manage Allergies

As a water-soluble vitamin, Vitamin C is not very effective in its traditional forms tablets, powders, or pills.

Needless to say that oil and water dont mix together and as cell membranes are made from fat, the passing of vitamin C through these membranes will be hindered and the end result will be lower rates of cellular uptake and utilization. It is estimated that supplementing regular vitamin C provides a lower absorption rate by 70 fold comparable to intravenous bioavailability rate .

The advent of medical research has led to a revolutionary new formula known as Liposomal Vitamin C. Liposomal vitamins have a similar composition to the way that the cellular membrane has evolved. The liposome itself is is a nano-sized sphere thats composed of two parts a water-soluble part that attaches to water-soluble vitamin C and a fat-soluble part that allows for compatibility with the cellular membrane. This innovative technology has helped to enhance absorption of the nutrient to great extent compared with regular forms . It is superior to regular forms that suffer from poor absorption capacity and more convenient and economical for your daily routine than an IV infusion for example.
