B12 Deficiency and Childhood Asthma

Dr. Jonathan Wright, MD, the fearless leader in integrative medicine has long espoused using B12 injections for treating childhood asthma. He cites many articles from 1931 onward that demonstrate hypochlorhydria in infants and adults, which can be normalized with parenteral B12 injections. One study from 1935 found that 88 percent of children with asthma, from one to 10 years old, had low free acidity. Another study found that after gastric and jejunal biopsies from patients with asthma after having a single dose of cows milk, resulted in 80 percent subtotal villous atrophy .

In a 1979 study, it was determined that children with milk allergies had flattened, disorganized gastric villi . Besides allergy elimination, he found that administering betaine hydrochloride-with pepsin was also helpful in children and adults. The use of fish oils, magnesium, B6 and vitamin C also improved outcomes.

Homeopathic Complex Remedies

Every homeopathic company has complex homeopathic remedies for the respiratory system. Remember Xs mean the substance has been diluted 10 times, so they are very diluted and safe. 4X, for example means the substance has been diluted 10 times for four times. By the way, Cs are a hundred fold dilutions. Some remedies go as high as 50,000 C, or higher. These are all low dose remedies.

Are You Suffering With Seasonal Allergies Or Colds See What Olbas Oil Can Do For You

I have never officially been diagnosed with allergies, but I do know that SOMETHING causes me to get very congested this time of the year, and I doubt its a typical cold. A cold usually only lasts a few days. I seem to be stuffy almost every day.

We have a cat with severe asthma. We dont know what triggers it but I do know the past few weeks she has been having more and more asthma attacks.

Im not a fan of taking medications. I take enough medication for my diabetes and neuropathy. Anytime I can swap out an over the counter medication with a more natural, homeopathic version, Im all for that.

I try not to take over the counter medications unless I absolutely have no other choice.

Im constantly surfing the web to find more natural alternatives to what ails me and my family.

A couple of months ago I was sent to review a product called OLBAS Oil. Its not something I used on a regular basis, which is why this review didnt go up sooner .

I am familiar with the brand. I use an inhaler made by OLBAS to aid in my stuffiness. I have tried other inhalers before, but I always go back to OLBAS because I really enjoy the scent you get when you inhale it.

OLBAS Oil is made up of oils from six medicinal herbs that have been used for centuries in cultures around the world. The oils are blended by Swiss herbalists.

According to OLBAS, these are the benefits of OLBAS Oil.

I have also used the OLBASOil as a muscle rub, both on myself and my husband.

Children: Eucalyptus oil is LIKELY UNSAFE for children. It should not be taken by mouth or applied to the skin. Not much is known about the safety of using eucalyptus leaves in children. It’s best to avoid use in amounts larger than food amounts.

Diabetes: Early research suggests eucalyptus leaf might lower blood sugar. There is concern that using eucalyptus while taking medications for diabetes might lower blood sugar too much. Blood sugar levels should be monitored closely.

Surgery: Since eucalyptus might affect blood sugar levels, there is concern that it might make blood sugar control difficult during and after surgery. Stop using eucalyptus at least 2 weeks before a scheduled surgery.

Tips From Other People With Asthma

If your asthma is keeping you awake at night, youre not alone.

In our recent sleep survey, 45% of people told us they have difficulty sleeping because of their asthma at least once a week, and nearly 50% said theyd had an asthma attack at night.

Here are some of the things that people tell us help them get a good nights sleep, which our nurses agree might be helpful:

  • Ease a dry throat with a glass of water
  • Try a nasal saline rinse or use decongestants to unblock a stuffy nose
  • Take regular exercise
  • Relax in the evening using mindfulness, meditation, breathing exercises or yoga
  • Avoid caffeine in the afternoon and evening.

Cannabis Has Analgesic Properties

Although pain is not necessarily considered to be aprimary symptom of an acute episode of asthma, studies have shown that up to 76% of patients experience chest pain duringan attack. Generally, asthma-related pain is characterized by a deep ache orsharp stabbing sensation that develops gradually over the first few hours ofthe attack, and slowly dissipates as the attack recedes.

While there are no studies that specifically investigate the ability of cannabis to treat asthma-related pain, several studies into the general effect of cannabis on asthma have noted subjective improvements in pain. The known bronchodilatory and analgesic effects of certain cannabinoids suggest that they could be useful in managing asthma-related pain. Cannabinoids can do this both by reducing pressure and constriction in the lungs, and by acting directly at the nociceptors themselves.

Essential Oils Do Not Replace Traditional Medicine

Essential oils may have some potential in asthma treatment in certain people. But they should never be used to replace asthma medication, especially in more severe asthma. The best ways to manage asthma are:6

  • Avoid your asthma triggers the best you can.
  • Take asthma medicines, such as inhaled steroids to prevent symptoms.
  • Be ready to treat asthma episodes if they occur with a rescue, or quick-relief, inhaler.

I know some people believe that doctors who recommend prescription medications over “natural” alternatives are ruled by “Big Pharma” and the government. And it’s true that in the U.S., pharmaceutical companies do exert tremendous influence on health care, regulations, and even the government. But it’s also true that asthma experts worldwide have concluded that the approach listed in the bullets above is the best, most effective, way to achieve asthma control and prevent disability and death.

I will tell you, though, that at the behest of a friend, I tried a mixture of lemon, lavender, and peppermint oils to treat my allergic asthma a few years ago. I loved the aromas, and I did not have any allergic reaction, even though I am quite sensitive to perfumes. But the oils also did not help my asthma at all. I know you will hear different results from other people, but that was my experience. I truly wish the essential oils had helped me.

    Taking Decongestants With Other Medicines

Ask a pharmacist or GP before taking decongestants if you’re taking other medicines.

For example, taking decongestants alongside some antidepressants can cause a dangerous rise in blood pressure.

It’s also important to be careful when taking other medicines if you’re using an “all-in-1” decongestant remedy.

“All-in-1” decongestants also contain painkillers or antihistamines, so it could be dangerous to take extra doses of these medicines at the same time.

Aafa Explains: Can Essential Oils Help Asthma

    What is asthma?

Asthma is a chronic disease that inflames the airways and makes it hard to breathe. There is no cure. The best way to manage asthma is:

    • Avoid your asthma triggers.
    • Take medicines to prevent symptoms.
    • Prepare to treat asthma episodes if they occur.

    What are essential oils?

Essential oils, like herbal remedies, come from plants. Examples include lavender, peppermint, tea tree oil and eucalyptus.

Practitioners of traditional and folk medicine have used essential oils for thousands of years, much like herbal remedies.

Today, they are often sold as aromatherapy with claims that they are natural.People use the oils by massaging them onto the skin or inhaling the aromas.

Is there any evidence to back up claims that essential oils can help my asthma?

There is no evidence that essential oils can help asthma. In fact, breathing in the particles released by the oils may trigger an asthma attack.

The strong odors emitted by essential oils contain volatile organic compounds . VOCs affect indoor air quality, just like incense, air fresheners and scented candles. Poor indoor air quality can make you sick with asthma, allergies and other illnesses.

Some essential oils may irritate the skin.

Oils may also be poisonous to young children if swallowed.

    The bottom line:

There is no evidence that essential oils can help asthma. Essential oils may be harmful to people with asthma.

Bronchitis Vs Asthma What Is The Difference

The difference between bronchitis and asthma is the cause of the respiratory inflammation. Bronchitis is the result of a viral or bacterial infection of the airways but many doctors dont know what causes asthma.

Bronchitis and asthma are both conditions that cause inflammation in the airways. Respiratory inflammation from bronchitis and asthma constricts the airways, makes it harder to breathe and may result in spasms in your respiratory muscles. The inflammation causes mild to severe coughing and a buildup of excess mucus.

Because the symptoms of asthma and bronchitis are similar, many of the essential oil remedies for bronchitis also help treat asthma symptoms.

    Lack Of Research And Approval

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America say that there is no evidence to prove that essential oils can help people with asthma.

In fact, some may be dangerous and trigger symptoms in the same way that air fresheners and other chemicals do.

The AAFA do not recommend using essential oils to treat asthma.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration do not regulate the use of essential oils for any conditions, including asthma, but they have issued warnings about some products.

Since the FDA do not approve their use, there are no regulations to control what an essential oil contains. As a result, users cannot be sure that the ingredients are pure.

Twelve Best Essential Oils For Coughs

There are many causes for someone to cough, including the common cold, flu, or chest infection. Essential oils may help to soothe the throat, reduce inflammation, and clear away mucus.

The medical community tends to view essential oils as a complementary alternative therapy rather than a medical treatment. These oils should be used with caution, as there are no approved guidelines about dosage or strength.

However, there are instructions, and if a person follows them, any of the 12 essential oils below may help to relieve a cough.
